Who We Are
J&J Fire Mitigation is a veteran and wildland firefighter owned company formed in 2024 with the goal of providing quality wildfire mitigation to help protect homes and property. Together, Jackson and John have a decade of experience in wildfire mitigation and wildfire suppression around the western United States. J&J Fire Mitigation’s primary mission is to help create a hardy wildland urban interface by using National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and real world experience to aid homeowners with home ignition zone projects along with larger scale forestry projects to help create a healthy fire resilient landscape.
John Lanza
John began his fire career at Rocky Mountain National Park as a member of the fuels module during the destructive fire season of 2020. John had worked on the East Troublesome, Cameron Peak, and Calwood fires as well as fires around the western United States. It was a face-paced introduction to wildland fire, solidifying the importance of a well mitigated landscape in aiding suppression efforts as well as reducing fire intensity. John then moved on to Four Mile Fire Protection District as a member of the fire crew, working on large fire mitigation projects as well as responding locally to wildfire and medical incidents and national wildfire suppression. Prior to wildland fire, John served four years with the 173rd Airborne as an infantry paratrooper. In his off time, you’ll find John training martial arts, snowboarding, hiking or playing tabletop games.
Jackson Koepke
Jackson has been a volunteer wildland firefighter with Allenspark Fire Protection District since the fall of 2020, responding to county wide wildfire and medical incidents. In 2022, Jackson joined Four Mile Fire Protection district as a member of the fire crew, where John and Jackson worked together as a saw team and dispatched nationally as a member of the county hand crew Shadow Canyon as well as on a type 6 engine. During his time with Four Mile, Jackson implemented home ignition zone and larger scale forestry projects in Boulder county. Jackson is currently a FireFighter Type 1 trainee, honing his skill as a Squad leader so he can direct a squad of firefighters during operations. When not working, you will catch Jackson on his local mountain bike trails or out skiing in the winter.
